  1. It took me about 40 minutes to convert this recipe. I included some substitutes for baking ammonia and cream tartar.

    Sugar Cookies

    -Original Recipe:
    ********************
    3 1/2 lbs. sugar
    1 1/2 lbs. shortening
    1/2 oz. soda
    salt
    6 oz. milk p. (powdered milk)
    10 eggs
    12 oz. water
    1/2 oz. ammonia
    vanilla
    5 1/2 lbs. flour
    1/2 oz. cream tartar
    ********************

    *Original recipe divided by 4
    *Recipe rounded to nearest cooking fraction

    1 lbs. sugar = 2 1/4 cups
    1/3 lbs. shortening = 3/4 cups
    1/8 oz. soda = 3/4 teaspoon (baking soda)
    salt = pinch
    1 1/2 oz. milk p. (powdered milk) = 4 tablespoons
    2 1/2 eggs
    3 oz. water = 1/3 cup
    1/8 oz. ammonia = 1/2 teaspoon, or 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    vanilla = dash, 1/8 teaspoon
    1 1/3 lbs. flour = 4 3/4 cups
    1/8 oz. cream tartar = 1 teaspoon, or 2 teaspoons lemon juice or white vinegar.
